Welcome

Important Announcement – The Speech Talking Newspapers app for smartphone and tablet will no longer be available after 1st August 2025. Please see the information below regarding how to switch to listen via the Amazon Alexa app.

Yews Talking Newspaper provides local news and information in audio format every week for those living in and around Mid Sussex who can’t access the printed word. It is available in a variety of ways such as online using an APP or Alexa, or by post for those who qualify.

The weekly recording includes extracts from the Mid-Sussex Times and other publications, together with useful local information and items of general interest. Preparation and distribution of the recording is all done by volunteers, and is completely free, as is any postage to visually-impaired recipients.

The recording is available in a number of ways:

  1. For listeners without internet access, USB memory sticks containing the recording are created and posted each week, on Friday morning. These are used in a simple player, which can be supplied free of charge.
  2. Smart Phone or Tablet using the Alexa app, which is free to download for both Apple and Android users.
  3. Using an Alexa enabled device, which we can supply free of charge.
  4. Directly from the British Wireless for the Blind website, using a standard web browser.

You can use this website to find out about receiving the Talking News, referring a friend, relative or client to us, or volunteering with us.

More details are available from the Chairman, Malcolm Hulatt on 01273 945602, or the Secretary Bryan Cornish on 01444 451440.
